KB #240043: Patch to fix BSOD when used with Computer Associates eTrust EZ AntiVirus

Type: Information
Summary:
When used on a system with Computer Associates (CA) eTrust EZ Antivirus, you may experience a Blue Screen (BSOD) after installing Encryptionizer.

Additional Information:
This issue has been fixed for nlem*.sys drivers version 2005.1.12 or later.  Get the latest version of Encryptionizer to avoid this issue.

There may be other Antivirus software that displays the same problem, however, so far it has been limited to CA eTrust. In addition, this applies only to Windows NT, 2K, XP, and 2003 Server. It does not apply to Windows 95, 98, or ME.

If you have received a BSOD when installing Encryptionizer and eTrust on the same machine, take the following steps:

  1. Boot into Safe Mode
  2. Apply patch
  3. Reboot normally
  4. After successfully patching, the file version on
system32\drivers\nlem32nt.sys should be 2005.1.12 or later.

If you cannot apply the patch immediately and wish to uninstall Encryptionizer, you should be able to do so by booting into Safe Mode.
